I recently engaged in the design services of Dorothy Gautreaux and couldn't be more pleased. I have had multiple designers over the years and while I was pleased with the results, it was never quite what I was hoping for. Dorothy was the first designer to truly "hit the mark" by interpreting my vision and making it reality. She used pieces I have collected and inherited over the years and added the much-needed light fixtures, furniture, plants, rugs, etc. that pulled everything together to achieve the look I was always seeking but never quite achieved. Dorothy's taste is impeccable. I particularly liked the way she would present me with options, all of which would work, so I could make selections I liked best yet still get the look I wanted. She is delightful to work with, and I highly recommend her services.
Dorothy is outstanding. From the very first consultation, I knew that I wanted to work with her and could trust her with remodeling our dated home. We worked together for about a year to transform our entry way, kitchen, dining room, living room and primary bedroom and from start to finish, her exceptional design expertise, attention to detail and genuine passion for creating stunning spaces was truly impressive. Dorothy listened and quickly learned my style and preferences on spending - she made good recommendations on where to invest in quality but also found great deals along the way. Every time she visited, she'd leave me with little nuggets of design or functionality wisdom along the way. And she's just fun to work with! Our home has been completely transformed into a haven of style, comfort and functionality. I feel a tremendous amount of joy and peace in our home now and it's thanks to her.
All I can say is, I love my home and there is no way I could have achieved this result without Dorothy's decorating skills. She knows how to "bring it all together." She really listens. She guided me to sources of furniture I never would have thought of myself -- and guided me through the selection of sofa design and fabric. I have back issues and she had those top of mind whenever we considered seating. Do you have a messed up closet (by messed up, I mean you literally can't walk inside it.). In a matter of minutes she organized my closet and gave me ideas for where/how to store my boxes of papers I refuse to part with. She was amazing at creating little galleries of pictures/prints that make me happy when I look at them. Dorothy is a joy to work with, and she stayed within my budget without question. (This will also save you from buying mismatched furniture that you'll eventually hate.) You literally can't go wrong. Hire Dorothy!
Dorothy is amazing!!! We hired her to help with selections on a major renovation in our first home. During the consultation she took the time to listen to our needs and get a feel for the space. All of her suggestions and selections have met our goals of being functional but also beautiful. I also believe her pricing is extremely fair for the level of service and attention to detail she provides. I tried to go rogue and go to the tile showroom alone when I was in the area and left in tears. I brought Dorothy back the following week and we knocked everything off the to-do list. We picked out selections I never would've been able to put together myself. I left that showroom with a huge weight off my chest. If you're already deciding to make the investment into improving your home, the investment in Dorothy is priceless.
We would be lost without Dorothy! As soon as we bought our Florida home we realized none of our furniture from up north would fit the new house style or layout. I felt so overwhelmed. Dorothy is amazing. I didn't even realize my house could look so gorgeous! Dorothy is by far the best experience I've had with a designer. She is flexible with budget constraints and cares what is best for you as her client. She's also very considerate of what you don't like and keeps notes so she doesn't inadvertently pick something you will not like for your designs. My experience with Dorothy: The Designer for a Day service far exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to anyone that may be looking for someone to come in and do everything. For someone to provide you with ideas and you take the reins or a mix of both! I provided a mood board for Dorothy prior to our appointment so she came in knowing my style. She was able to provide on the spot recommendations that made such a huge difference in my house, from swapping nightstands between rooms to moving furniture around so that you maximize the space, lots of progress was made the day of the appointment. What I loved most is that she was able to take measurements, pull up her laptop and start sending me links for ideas, with my budget in mind. I am so excited for all of the changes to come and could not have been more pleased and grateful with the overall experience!

I had a great experience working with Dorothy! I was struggling on how to work with an earth-tone palette I had chosen for my new home, and Dorothy totally brought it to life! She was able to incorporate pieces I had already purchased or brought from my previous home, thus saving me some money. I had told her to be completely honest with what she liked and didn't like, and I appreciated that she was. She may have known me more than I knew myself.... I actually teared up a bit when she styled a bar cart she had chosen for my great room, because it just worked so well after I was thinking I was too old to have a bar cart in my home. She incorporated some favorite things on it, and made it me! The whole experience was FUN, and turned out beautifully!

Dorothy traveled to my home in Austin for her "Spruce Up" package. Our living room is very open and integrating our toddler's toys has been a challenge. She came in an helped us organize, utilize many of the items we already had in the home, and to part with things we no longer needed. She was efficient, stayed on budget, professional, and even made a process I dreaded - FUN. I can't recommend her enough and we can't wait to hire her again!

There are so many things I never liked about my house until Dorothy came and did her thing here. These areas are now my favorite spots in the home! She worked with what I already had and stuck to the budget and style on the new items need. I have a different style than what is on her website and she listened to what I wanted and provided exactly that in ways I couldn't have imagined on my own. On a scale of 1-5 I'd give her a 10!
WOW! Just wow. Dorothy literally took everything we said and transformed it into a beautiful masterpiece that we absolutely LOVE! She is the biggest asset to have when you are a new homeowner who is terrible at making decisions about where things should go and how to execute ideas!
